From hard bounds to e-copies

Okay, I have been switching from one thing to another nowadays. And I feel like it is a phase I am facing since I am an getting older.

I want to share now that from collecting and reading hard copies of books, I am now switching to e-books.

note: this blog will also discuss how i removed the ads on my e-reader

My love for reading books started when I was in high school. I was part of the student publication that time, and our adviser recommends us books to read. Some authors I adore and introduced to me were John Grisham, Dan Brown, Barbara Delinsky and Paulo Coelho.

I started to love reading books to a point that I visit book sales to score good deals. My physical books collection also grew through the years.

However, for the past 3 years, I haven't even finished reading physical books. That was because I started reading AO3 fanfics and eBooks.

Fast forward to today, I decided to let go of the books I have collected. Main reason is I have moved out from my family's home and now living with my boyfriend. I need to sell some of my stuff because I cannot bring it all here. The money I got from selling the books were used to purchase this...

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 7th Generation

Because it is handy and can store lots of books, I got myself an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 7th Generation. This is actually an old ( released year 2015 ) model but it 100% serves its purpose. I do not really need a very high-tech e-reader, I just need something I can use to read. I got this from Facebook Marketplace for only P 2,900.00

Why Kindle?

You might be wondering why do I need to get a Kindle? Why not just use my phone and download eBook applications. It's actually because I want to avoid distractions. With a smart phone, I might be tempted to open Tiktok, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and then forget about reading. My main goal is actually to read books again and not spend 3 or 4 hours browsing my social media. Kindle will make me focus as it only is used for purpose of reading.

Removing Ads

By the way, the next thing I did after logging in on my Amazon account on my Kindle was to request the removal of ads. This prevents any "not safe for work" book cover recommendations to appear on my Kindle's lock screen. It was fairly easy and saved me from paying $20.

Steps:

1. Go to this link: Amazon Live Chat then select Kindle, Fire or Alexa Device. Another option will pop up "Pick what you need help with" , select Issues with Promotions and Deals > I need more help > Chat with us

2. A chat agent will assist you. Just request that you wish the ads to be removed on your Kindle because some recommendations appearing on the lock screen are < state reason > example: not safe for work, too sexual or triggering

The chat agent will then ask for your device's serial number. You can locate this on your Amazon account > Content & Devices > Devices > Kindle

You may also go to your Kindle > Settings > Device Options > Device Info

3. It will only take a minute and the ads will be removed. A notification will show on your Kindle's screen.

Now that I have the ads removed, no more unwanted book covers will appear on my lock screen. I can also try the " personal lock screen tip " I found on Tiktok. ୧⍢⃝୨

By the way, here's a list of the books I plan to read. I already have them on my Kindle. (☆ω☆*)

  2. The Housemaid's Secret by Freida McFadden

  3. September Love by Lang Leav

  4. Before and Again by Barbara Delinsky
