I picked up Iron Flame weeks prior the release of Onyx Storm. I read it accompanied with a graphic audio book. Iron Flame is the second book in The Empyrean series and continues the story of our heroine Violet Sorrengail in her journey in the time of war, duty and love.

The book opened (continued from last scene in Fourth Wing) with Violet's discovery that her brother Brennan Sorrengail is still alive and is part of the Assembly, a group based in Aretia, residing in the Riorson House, dedicated to protecting the citizens of Poromish and Navaria from the growing threat of venin.
What I like:
World-building
I really like fantasy books that have great level of world-building. The intricacies of the magical systems, location, dragons and magic knowledge were carefuly explained in the book.
Character development
I think compared to Fourth Wing, Violet has matured more in this second installment of the book. Her decisions are thought of, and she is also stronger. Xaden's romantic character development is what stood out for me. His relationship with Violet made him show more of his soft side and he learned to open up with Violet.
Dragons
Aside from magic and how strong the dragons are, their bond with their riders made me like their characters. Tairns protectiveness, Andarna's sassiness among others and their sharp responses to their riders kept me entertained.
Now, if you're wondering about the audiobook experience—let me tell you that a graphic audiobook is a game changer! The combination of sound effects, music and intense narration made the already vivid story come to life. I laughed when Andarna said "I've never tasted gryphon" and when Tairn lectures "We do not eat our allies", I felt it when Xaden shouted, "All I want is you!", felt all the emotions on Lilith's sacrifice and when Xaden said, "You should be scared of me."
Oh no! Don't mention about the spicy scenes because for some moments I prayed my Bluetooth headset won't get disconnected while listening to it! Spicy as it is!
I am giving this book a perfect 5/5 because of the experience I had reading it. It felt like I traveled inside their world. It's packed with action and numerous emotions. Can't wait to start Onyx Storm.
