Train of Thoughts: The Fallacy of True Love Book Review

Would you believe this is my 12th ARC received this year? I can't thank enough authors who entrust me to read and review their books!

I have read Anj Miranda's The Off-Chance of Me and You and found her writing light, heartfelt, and genuinely enjoyable. Now, let's talk about The Fallacy of True Love.

The story's main character involves another Reyes sibling - Alonzo and Cam, a beach town girl.

First, let's dissect the characters.

❤️ Alonzo - the golden retriever. A city boy, student taking law, supportive and kindhearted. But beneath that, he carries personal struggles he faces alone. He still lives under his parents’ roof while his sisters are successful (one’s even engaged to an NBA star!). Not to mention his relationship with his father is a constant push-and-pull. Add to that a heartbreak he’s still nursing, and you’ll see there’s more to him than his easygoing exterior.

❤️ Cam - a black cat type: And as the book cover suggests, she’s not your typical female lead. Not overly polished, sexy, or fair-skinned stereotypes. Just a feisty, independent, and making a living through freelance work while living alone in the province.

So, what happens when they met? I love that this book showed that we do not have a lot of good reasons to fall. Not all things should make sense. Anj wrote Alonzo’s persistence with just the right balance. Determined enough to reach Cam, but respectful enough to give her space. The letters sent in advanced?! YES!

Also, for Cam, a somewhat damaged soul, was never forced to magically change in this story. She remained true to herself, only softening and opening up because of love. I love how Anj made this sense on her character!

In the end, the title made sense to me even more. Love is not how we idealized it to be always a fairy-tale kind of love. Instead, it’s about love coexisting with flaws, wounds, and unresolved struggles. And maybe, inspiring both to overcome these struggles together.

Thank you, Anj Miranda for trusting me this ARC so I can continue sharing that we have incredible storytellers who create amazing, swoon-worthy reads.

The Fallacy of True Love will be out on August 12, 2025! It is part of The Reyes Siblings [ standa alone ] series.
