Kaleidoscope

I swam into a dreamlike garden at the land of Phobos. Blue, pink and white Hydrangeas feel like wet silk upon touch. For tulips, showtime has long started. Sea of white bulbs punctuates the land, reaching for the sky. A dragonfly is happily tapping its toes on to a yellow flower. A daily visit of the devil's darning needle, maybe. The Sun kisses the silk petals, wind gently blows and pollens shower the damp land.

I go along with my peers, dancing into the rhythm of the wind.

In the middle, a pond awaits those who are tired. We passed by to rest. I faced my reflection and took a glance to patterns nature cherish. My patterns, my friends' patterns. Brown, white, yellow, red, orange and blue. Iridescent colors, those are our wings...

Afar I look, my eyes found a lone swallowtail. Its wings are painted black, green, red, blue and purple. A stunner.

The swallowtail flaps its wings, trying to catch up with another group. Some look back, some wants to wait, most ignores. The swallowtail attempts to reach out. [But] the group flew and flutter.

Luzon Peacock Swallowtail
Luzon Peacock Swallowtail This "gloss" or "peacock" swallowtail (Papilio chikae) was discovered in 1965 on Luzon, an island in the northern Philippines. Preferring heights of over 1500 meters, the peacock swallowtail is la rare large butterfly with black, green, red, blue, and even purple scales.

What's wrong? Is it because the swallowtail is blue, and they are brown? Green instead of white? Is it because its enchantress is uncommon?

Powerless and exhausted, the swallowtail rests on the petals of a sunflower.

The wind blows a cold breeze. Ah, a thunder strikes. Raindrops will soon start to fall.

My companions flap their iridescent wings. I followed. We flew in a direction many would falter.

"Hello, Luzon." a fellow with black, white and yellow wings uttered.

Surprised. Luzon was. But soon enough, Luzon's wings spread out. A nod followed.

Ah, Luzon. You are beautiful. Your colors dazzle the garden.

Together we emerge in the field. We fly, strong and brave. We grace the sky.

From a far you we will see us. A kaleidoscope of butterflies. Gracefully flapping our painted wings, different hues of colors but equal.

Kaleidoscope is a tribute to my friends from the LGTBQ+ community. This is to express that diversity may not be accepted yet by all, but you have us. We love you.
